At Certifi, we've had the opportunity to visit and interact
with service bureaus and content owners in many countries.
We’ve met with the operators that perform quality assurance and the managers who
are responsible for setting quality standards.
One truth holds for every organization we’ve visited.
Despite the progress our community has made in technology, there are still many
important challenges remaining and these challenges are high stake.
Content owners wish to
implement better quality assurance processes, but specifying a meaningful
process can be technically daunting. We’ve seen instances where entire jobs
needed to be re-digitized because the difference between “actual DPI” and
“effective DPI” was not understood. We've also seen service
bureaus that lose money on contracts because the amount of labor needed for
operator-assisted cropping and deskewing
was well beyond the amount budgeted.
